PREVALENCE OF FEMALE SEXUAL DYSFUNCTIONS IN A GYNECOLOGY OUTPATIENT CLINIC IN ARACAJU, SERGIPE

Objective: To determine the prevalence of female sexual dysfunctions in a Gynecology outpatient clinic. Methods: An observational, cross-sectional and analytical study of quantitative approach enrolled 170 women with active sexual life between 18 – 65 years old in a gynecology outpatient clinic. The Female Sexual Function Index questionnaire was applied to this population. Results: Of total sample, 15 patients did not fill out the questionnaire, so their data were removed. From 155 patients who filled out the form completely, 53,5% had a score below 26.5, which corresponds to 83 women. The average age was 40.5 years, among the women who reported already being in menopause, 60,4% of them scored below the mentioned cut-off score. Regarding the marital relationship, 32 patients, who scored below 26.5, classified their relationship as "Somewhat Unhappy", " Considerably Unhappy" or "Extremely Unhappy". Among the domains evaluated, "Desire" and "Arousal" were the least scored. Evidences of correlation was established between “Marital relationship" and the data referring to "Satisfaction" - "FSFI" - "Arousal"; the values 0.51(p<0.001), 0.44(p<0.001), and 0.36(p<0.001), respectively. The sexual domain "Satisfaction", also showed indications of inverse correlation with the variables "Age" and "Pregnancies", consecutively, -0.35(p<0.001) and -0.30(p<001). Conclusion: This study identified a high prevalence of female sexual dysfunction in the sample of women interviewed. Several factors were related to a higher risk of sexual dysfunction, including marital relationship, menopause and number of pregnancies, which affect the quality of life and sexual experience of women, compromising the dynamism of sexual health.
