The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities defines persons with disabilities as “those who have long-term impairments, physical, mental, intellectual or sensory impairments which may hinder the full and effective participation in society.” Such a situation does not prevent them from living sexuality, since it is experienced in their daily lives through their perceptions, fantasies, desires, relationships, attitudes and behavior. However, if sexuality is already experienced with some taboo in Brazilian social environment, when this issue alloy subjects ‘sexuality’ and ‘disability’, there is an alleged denial of reality by society, which causes great harm to individuals with disabilities. Method: A literature review was conducted in books and scientific articles published in electronic databases through the use of descriptors: sexuality; sex education; disabilities and special needs. Results: Through the literature review it is observed that people with disabilities as well as others, have desires to experience the new and experience sexuality safely and consciously. However, through the denial of this fact, many teens and adults with disabilities end up having this underrated right and / or denied by his family and / or society in general, hindering and / or preventing these people and their families have not only access to sex education, but also putting them at risk in the face of sexuality.
Conclusions: The instruction to parents of disabled people on issues related to sexuality ensures those subjects the experience of sexuality safely and consciously in that it is made possible to subject the experiences in partnership with more autonomy, knowledge and security, while that the family is offered scientific knowledge that assists in sexuality education to their children, enabling a more direct, clear and true approach of issues inherent in the human condition.
