Abstract

This paper is a discussion of the role of women in the Brazilian family. The profile of Brazilian families changed much in the last thirty years. Beside the traditional family model consisting of father, mother and children, growing families with different compositions: single parents, remarried, childless, headed by women. This article presents reflections on the different families. Therefore, weaves theoretical and methodological considerations on the family throughout history and the role of women today. Furthermore, announces the achievement of women’s autonomy and the transformation of the role of women in family and society.
