Abstract

To verify the prevalence of bowel, genitourinary and sexual dysfunctions, and the association between female health and changes in bowel function after COVID-19. A cross-sectional study was conducted, the sample was purposive consisting of women aged 18-45 years, with diagnostic confirmation of COVID-19. Participants were recruited through electronic dissemination and answered a virtual questionnaire, with questions related to intimate health. The Bristol Stool Form Scale was used to analyze the fecal content; the prevalence of urinary incontinence was investigated using the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire - Short Form (ICIQ-SF), and the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) was used to evaluate sexual function. Statistical analyses were performed using the Epi Info software. Binary logistic regression was performed using the odds ratio (adjusted Odds Ratio) with a 95% confidence interval and a 5% significance level (p-value < 0.05). Significant impacts on women's health after infection were found. The study participants reported to present alterations in bowel function (43.6%), the prevalence of urinary incontinence was 37.1%, as well as alterations in premenstrual signs and symptoms (51.1%). A high prevalence of sexual dysfunctions was also observed in the studied population (77.4%).
