Abstract

Objective: To evaluate psychosexual health from the humanistic perspective of the Person Centered Approach (PCA) – before and after the use of Tribulus Terrestris in women with female sexual dysfunction. Methods: A consecutive series of 100 women with female sexual dysfunction were recruited to participate in the study in the Sexology service of the Ambulatory Jenny de Andrade Faria/Hospital das Clínicas – UFMG-EBSERH. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE: Patients underwent anamnesis, Decreased Sexual Desire Screener (DSDS) and psychological assessment based on the Person Centered Approach (PCA) before and after 90 days using Tribulus Terrestris. Results: The average age of patients at menacme was 38 years and post-menopausal women, 55 years. The total mean age of the 100 patients was 47 years old. The drug interaction was beneficial to patients in the menacme in relation to the spontaneous and responsive desire, subjective arousal, genital arousal/lubrication, orgasm and sexual satisfaction domains. About the other domains, the benefits were better for postmenopausal patients, as they reported improvement in spontaneous desire, subjective arousal, genital arousal/lubrication, orgasm, dyspareunia, sexual satisfaction. Clinical Implications: This study highlights the importance of humanist psychological assessment – Person-Centered Approach (PCA) in women with female sexual dysfunction, before and after treatment with Tribulus Terrestris. Strength and limitations: The main contribution of this research is to highlight the psychosexual aspects from the humanistic perspective of sexual health in patients with sexual dysfunction before and after drug treatment. CONCLUSION: Using PCA as an instrument, we were successful in collecting the sensitive data from patients, necessary for the psychosexual evaluation, which concludes that the drug interaction was predominantly beneficial to patients in the menacme and post menopause, with the exception of the domains, respectively, of pain and desire responsive.
