WOMAN´S SEXUALITY IN RECLUSION
THE RESCUE OF SELF-ESTEEM THROUGH PLAY ACTIVITIES

The Brazilian prison system, traditionally structured to fit on male universe, results indelible marks on sexuality of sentenced women. Concerning about these assumptions, this research proposed to analyze experiences related to sexuality of incarcerated women using playfulness. These activities allowed them to express their selves, knock out resistances and realize “nodes” that constitute obstacles that define female subjectivity. The approaching is theoretically supported by Bourdieu, Vygotsky, education like as a social and historical practice, cultural and historic psychology and Paulo Amarante on mental health. As research procedures, five playful workshops with twelve volunteer women were accomplished in a month. During this period, dialogues between professionals, students and unit technicians mediated testimonials about expressions of experienced, denied or distorted sexuality, as well as reflections of these experiences on self-esteem and identities of participating women. It was valuable to register the adhesion and effective participation of ten women in each workshop, which is an infrequent occurrence when it is related to alternative procedures in daily life of a prison unit. The main topics discussed were: (re) construction of identities, prejudice, deprivation, sensuality, eroticism and love. Based on workshops that valued the playful expression, creative doing and autonomy, we infer that much to propose activities, the creation of a space to listen to them about what they wanted to do was important. Open a space to experience sensations, create, form bonds stimulated the expression of potential, communication and autonomy. Women’s participation in workshops led immersion times in the issue in which they live, allowing highlight the production of meanings and distant feelings of crime, prison experience, abandonment and deprivation and rescue the self-esteem of women prisoners.
