Introduction: Burns are common globally, affecting approximately one million people in Brazil annually. This study carried out in a reference center in Curitiba/PR investigated the self-esteem and sexual satisfaction of burn outpatient patients. Cross-sectional, observational and analytical research using the Burn Sexuality Questionnaire in 50 adult patients (18-75 years old), all sexually active. Of the participants, 56% were women and 44% men, with an average age of 34.5 years. Regarding marital status, 42% were married and 54% were single. The majority (74%) had a stable relationship pre-burn, and 80% maintained sexual activity post-trauma. There were no significant differences in perceived body image or social comfort between sexes or between single and married people. However, patients with smaller injuries had better self-perception, related to age and extent of the burn. It is crucial to consider individual characteristics to understand the impacts of burns. Older, married women reported sexual abstinence prior to the burns, suggesting indirect causes. The study emphasizes the need for a treatment approach that incorporates psychological and social aspects. The research reveals how the extent of burns influences physical, mental and sexual health, emphasizing the importance of integrated treatment to improve the quality of life of those affected.
