SEX AND SEXUALITY IN BRAZILIAN AGING
A NARRATIVE REVIEW

The aging of the Brazilian population brings with it the need to develop a dialogue about old age in its biological, psychological and social aspects, including sexuality, which still represents a social taboo in this phase. With this in mind, this article has the objective to understand how people over 60 express and experience their sexuality nowadays in Brazil. For this purpose, a narrative review of the literature was utilized as a method, using the Google Scholar, LILACS and SciELO databases. 68 articles were pre-selected, resulting in 11 works chosen based on the selection criteria. The research has evidenced that sexuality is experienced in old age, so desires and sexual and emotional life do not end with aging. However, the social taboo related to sexually active old age limits the knowledge of people over the age of 60 about the topic, in addition to creating vulnerabilities in access to sexual health information, especially for socially marginalized groups, such as women and LGBTQIAPN+ people. Therefore, scientific production on sexuality and aging is encouraged and the development of public policies focused on this population is suggested.
