Abstract

The study is aimed at uncovering the social representations of gender inequalities among adolescents in MST encampments in northern Paraná. This is a qualitative study, based on the assumptions of Social Representations, supported for discussions of gender in conceptions of patriarchy. The study was conducted with 18 adolescents, ten boys and eight girls, two MST encampments in the state of Paraná. It appears that the social representations of gender inequalities, are shared and built social, historic and culturally. Note the presence of a patriarchal ideology, which covers an unequal power structure between adolescence MST, marking asymmetries about being male or female, a fact that has modulated sexual behavior and practices.
