Abstract

Man expects his penis to have an autonomous and independent attitude that reinforces his masculinity, at the same time as he dreams of the ideal penis to relieve his anxiety of not reaching an erection. He reduces a love affair to the size and hardness of his penis, making his love partner the supporting actress and audience for his sexual performance. Throughout history, man has sought toning elements and placebos that would enhance desire, isolating it from love. He did so, not realizing that the greatest elixir was in perceiving the loved one as an ally in experiencing his own eroticism. Sildenafil, which used to be interpreted a pill-machine and even a “home wrecker” is, 10 years after its release, much better understood by couples in relationships that don’t neurotically worry and rely solely on genitality. The performance now depends on the love interest.
