Sexual abuse is a problem that transcends the national barriers. The world is familiar with the suffering of victimized children and adolescents, and the damages provoked by the evil produce trauma on mental health and on the social conviviality. Such consequences are psychological scars that, most of the time, remain alive in the life of their victims. Concerning this fact, some reflections about the social and cultural changes occurred in the scope of the family will be addressed, as well as public politics and the attention to the families, and moreover the analysis of sexual abuse in national level, specially in the city of Natal/RN. The analyses will delimit several concepts on sexual abuse, its consequences, the existence of this trouble in the mentioned city, and also the institutions that work to fight against this issue and make sure the rights assured by the Federal Constitution and the Child and Adolescent Statute prevail.
