Marital violence can be understood through different perspectives and, in the present work, the objective was to understand how this phenomenon is approached in the psychoanalytic scientific literature. In order to do so, we selected seven articles available in the databases LILACS, PePSIC, SciELO and PUBMED, according to the inclusion criteria. It can be understood that, in a general way, the authors understand the phenomenon from the linking dynamics, which embraces both members of the couple as participants and maintainers of intersubjective agreements that maintain the phenomenon. Violence is demarcated when the space of the subjective manifestation of one of the members is annulled, resulting in the imposition of desire of one of the members of the couple on the other. In other theoretical perspectives, such as those that contemplate gender discussions, the phenomenon is understood as unidirectional, that is, victims and aggressors are well established in a context and the relations of domination are asymmetrical. Other studies argue that violence between couples is a public health problem, with serious social consequences. It is observed that marital violence is still little discussed from the psychoanalytic perspective, with a greater amount of studies coming from other theoretical aspects.
