The author addresses some problems suffered by patients with psychogenic erectile dysfunction, initially from a Classic Psychoanalytical viewpoint (conflicts between desires, instincts, and instances of repression). He draws a correlation between the conflicts and aggressiveness, and its projection, the consequence of which may be the uncoscious desire to not have sexual intercourse. The study toucheson work by other authors and other techniques, and relates the experience of groups being attended institutio nally withín limited time-frames and wíth limited objectives, i.e. brief psychotherapy, lasting three to four months. The approach is psychoanalytical, but when necessary, cognitive and behavioral resources are introduced, as well as medicines. Toe results have been good, with more than 75% showinga very significant impro vement, or "cure". This experience suggests that lhe origin of thesymptoms is very early, and is duetoadeficiency in the st ructuring oftheself, wben basic needs were not met. This is what allows the " illness" to occur, triggered in specific situations. Working through these "lacks" leads not only to na alleviation of the symptoms, but also to naimproved quality of life.
