SOCIAL REPRESENTATIONS OF YOUNG ADULTS LIVING WITH HIV/AIDS

The number of cases of people with HIV/Aids has increased, especially among young people. Objective: to identify in the literature scientific evidence on the social representations of young adults living with HIV/Aids. Method: integrative review conducted in the databases: Embase; Scopus; Pubmed/MEDLINE; Web of Science, following the PRISMA tool. Young adults living with HIV/Aids were defined as a population. Results: 630 studies were identified, of which 22 were selected for full reading and three for the final sample. The main perceptions of young people regarding living with HIV/Aids involved fear, social vulnerability, insufficient knowledge, stigma and prejudice and discrimination in health services, which may lead the young to unfavorable outcomes. Conclusion: it was concluded that the ongoing discussion on the subject, the evolution of antiretroviral therapies and the creation of specialized reception centers, over decades, have not been sufficient for the representations of young people living with HIV/Aids to have been altered. The increase in HIV contamination among young people and the difficulties of this population, even today, in living with the virus, justifies the realization of new studies on the subject, in order to devise strategies that help minimize the deleterious effects of the disease throughout society.
