AGING AND OLD AGE LGBTQIA+
EFFECTS ON THE PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH OF MIDDLE-AGED AND ELDERLY PEOPLE

It is known that older LGBTQIA+ older people a double burden of stigma and prejudice: ageism and harassment for sexual orientation and gender identity, in addition to being more likely to suffer maltreatment, discrimination, depression and consequent damage to health physics. The aim of this research was to describe the impacts of being LGBTQIA+ on the physical and mental health of middle-aged and elderly people. This is an integrative review, whose searches were performed in the Lilacs, Medline (via PUBMED), Scopus, Pro and Web of Science databases, totaling 1847 articles found. After reading the titles and abstracts, the articles were submitted to qualitative and methodological analysis, leaving 6 studies with evidence levels between 3A and 6A. Most showed that perceived discrimination throughout life, heterosexism and the risks of informing family, friends and society that it is LGBTQIA+ can be associated with depression and worsening of preexisting chronic health conditions. It is suggested that further research be carried out, including those with a qualitative approach, in order to identify the factors that are associated with damage to the physical and mental health of this population, in order to support preventive, educational and interventional actions that promote active aging, healthy and safe to these people.
