Objective: To investigate whether there is a pattern of more impulsive or self-controlled choice behavior among individuals in relationships versus those who are single, using delayed discounting with hypothetical sexual scenarios. Method: This is an empirical, quantitative study conducted with 51 participants, cisgender men and women, over 18 years old, and university students who were either in relationships or single. Results: Individuals in relationships and single individuals discounted similarly (U = 269, z = -1.038, p = 0.29), but more individuals in relationships demonstrated higher sexual satisfaction. These results were obtained using the following instruments: QSRS and a Delay Discounting Task of hypothetical sexual activities. Understanding how individuals in relationships and single individuals make sexual choices contributes to addressing health issues associated with sexual behavior. Conclusions: There is a tendency for greater sexual impulsivity in individuals in relationships, with factors that can influence this dynamic and a positive association between relationship status and sexual contentment.
