CULTURAL COMPETENCIES FOR SEXUAL AND GENDER MINORITY HEALTH CARE
AN INTEGRATIVE LITERATURE REVIEW

International literature highlights the additional risks and health problems faced by Sexual and Gender Minorities (SGM), and provides data on discriminatory health care, which leads to low adhesion and/or poor treatment results, postponement of the search for health services, among others. Scholars point out the gap in the training of health professionals to act with cultural competence regarding the specific needs of this population. In order to contribute to initiatives aimed at professional qualification and improving health care for MSG, this study aimed to describe what has been discussed and developed in relation to cultural competences for health professionals working with SGM. This is an integrative literature review carried out in the Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS), covering the last five years (2019-2024). The results show that the theme is concentrated in two categories: 1) Articles that discuss Cultural Competence or equivalent at a theoretical level to promote an inclusive health service and 2) Articles that report the practical development of Cultural Competence or equivalent (staff training, educational actions, educational modules) to promote an inclusive health service.
