This integrative review’s aim was to investigate evidence available in the literature concerning violence against young and adolescent homosexuals. The following databases were searched, covering from 2010 to 2015: PubMed, LILACS, CINAHL and Web of Science. Fourteen papers were identified, from which three thematic units emerged: Types of violence and their contexts; Impact of violence on health; and Sexuality and education. The results showed that violence has enhanced the vulnerability to which youngsters and adolescents are exposed. Hetero-normativity has legitimized the production and maintenance of various situations of violence in diverse contexts for these youngsters and adolescents, with a severe impact on their health. The conclusion is that there is a need for future research to address the violence experienced in the routine of this population, to contribute to public policies and professional
qualification, especially in the health and education fields, so that professionals base their practices on integral protection, equity, human rights, and respect of sexual diversity, toward a resignification of the current normality expressed by sexuality as a device of power and control, and its heternormative standard.
