Individualism situations, extremism and stereotypes of gender, color, ethnicity, age, social and economic situation, identity, sexual orientation, and others daily emerge from the contemporary capitalist society that we live. There are growing cases of sexual and gender-based violence in all parts of the world, even though the process of women’s empowerment is increasing. This trend which is known as the awareness of women to socially claim equality of rights between different genders and, above all, to gain their autonomy. Aiming to evidence and discuss female empowerment in education, it was carried out a bibliographical research on the theme that resulted in this essay. In addition to our experience as educators, it was understood from the study that expressive changes have been taking place with regard to female empowerment, although it is still a long way before they are empowered, emancipated; occupying spaces and power spheres have not been enough to end the physical, psychological and symbolic violence that women suffer every single day.
